And if you did, would you be big enough to stand it? Mitch Albom, in this new book, once again demonstrates why he is one of my favourite writers: a fearless explorer of the wishful and magical, he is also a devout believer in the power of love. For One More Day will make you smile. It will make you wistful. It will make you blink back tears of nostalgia. But most of all, it will make you believe in the eternal power of a mother's love."

-JAMES MCBRIDE, author of The Color of Water

He's one of my fav writer because

Just like Mitch Albom mentioned in his prologue, every family is a ghost story. Because of their stories, we have ours.

This story is about Charley Benetto, a broken man, his life destroyed by alcohol and regret. He loses his job. He leaves his family. He hits rock bottom after discovering he won't be invited to his only daughter's wedding. And he decides to take his own life.

What follows is the one seemingly ordinary day so many of us yearn for: a chance to make good with a lost parent,to explain the family secrets and to seek forgiveness.

In the book, there's a part where Charley listed out the times his mother stood up for him & the times he did NOT stand up for her. Though I can't recall (or do I just choose to forget) about times I did not stand up for my mum, it made me start to think about times that I hurt her feelings.

For One More Day

这是一本很棒的书，it'll make you re-evaluate your attitude to your parents & appreciate their love & care.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-04-22T16:02:45Z</dcterms:modified>

This is a book suitable for light reading.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2007-11-13T15:16:43Z</dcterms:modified>

THe Memory Keeper's Daughter

Author: KIM EDWARDS

" Families have secrets they hide even from themselves...

It should have been an ordinary birth, the start of an ordinary happy family. But the night Dr David Henry delivers his wife's twins is a night that will haunt five lives for ever.

For though David's son is a healthy boy, his daughter has Down's syndrome. And, in a shocking act of betrayal whose consequences only time will reveal, he tells his wife their daughter died while secretly entrusting her care to a nurse.

As grief quietly tears apart David's family, so a little girl must make her own way in the world as best she can."

Above is the introduction written at the back of the book.

All the grief & drama, are the outcome of a lie. A lie as a husband's best intention for his wife. What he didn't understand was, best intentions are not always the right way.

When you tell a lie, you'll need to make another ten to round it up. The guilt that haunts him for the rest of his life, lead him to secrecy. Through photos & frames, he tried to capture the best moments & memories, the wonders of human and nature, and his love for his family. Sadly, the love captured in the photos, are not seen in the eyes of his wife.

In this book, we see family that is so closely tied together, yet are strangers among themselves. The unspoken love between father and son, leading them to barrier and fights. Until David's death, only his son starts to understand his father.

Though David's lie is too much to bear, he paid the consequences, living a life of loneliness and unforgiveness... I feel sad for him.

A really nice novel.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2007-10-22T14:33:55Z</dcterms:modified>

Kite Runner

原文："..there is only one sin, only one. And that is theft. Every other sin is a variation of theft."

“When you kill a man, you steal a life,” Baba said. “You steal his wife’s right to a husband, rob his children of a father. When you tell a lie, you steal someone’s right to the truth. When you cheat, you steal the right to fairness. Do you see?”

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2007-09-07T10:32:44Z</dcterms:modified>

Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows

BLASTING IN TOWN NOW~~~

Yay, finally got my book..... Gonna read it now.. Updates later. Don't worry, I'll try my best not to give spoilers...

Ah~ Shit... That bloody Rita Skeeter..

For the record, I finished reading this @ 11.55pm 22-7-2007

Well, what could I say? Everything's done & over....

The following are SPOILERS so highlight ONLY if you wanna read:

- When I read about Dumbledore's past, I really hoped that it's just some bullshit of Rita Skeeter. However, when apparently it's true, I felt a bit down. Why? Why does JK Rowling spoil the perfect man image of Dumbledore?

- With the pitiful death of Snape, I felt so sorry for him. Reading chapter 33, the Prince's Tale... Poor Severus, he loved Lily all his life & all he gets is to be the bad guy, just to protect Harry, the son of the lady he loved & the guy he hated... R.I.P Prince ΦΔ (copyrighted from Hwee Jean's nick... )

- I was so touched when Professor MacGonagall & the other professors supported Harry 100% & the whole of Hogwarts, willing to fight against Voldemort. And even the house-elves of Hogwarts.... Aww... Such a touching scene...

- Yet, when Fred died, I nearly cried. Fred.... Oh Fred!! *sob* And then Lupin & Tonks, leaving behind their newborn baby, fight till the end.. *Rowling, how coul you just bring through Lupin & Tonks' death like that? How could you make their death look so unsignificant??*

- What's with the 19 years later part thingy? Really, just like the descripton of others, it feels like fan-fiction....

- Poor Dobby... Pity Mad-eye Moody, how could you just die off like that, at the very beginning???

-So Nevile Longbottom became professor of Hogwarts, so what became of Luna Lovegood?

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2007-02-12T18:11:42Z</dcterms:modified>

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2007-02-10T10:05:45Z</dcterms:modified>

Death Note

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-11-21T17:52:10Z</dcterms:modified>

The Giving Tree

THE GIVING TREE by Shel Silverstein

It's an illustration book with a very simple yet meaningful story.

There was once a tree that fell in love with a boy.

He played with the tree, climbed up the tree, ate its apple... He loved that tree, and so the tree was happy.

Anyhow, time passed and the boy grew up.

The tree felt lonely most of the time.

After a very long time, the boy came back & he was not happy.

He needed money, so the tree gave him all its apples to sell for money.

It felt happy after that.

So the story goes, everytime the boy came back after a long period, he needed something. The tree gave him its branches and its trunk, just to make him happy..

What was left was a lonely tree bark, but it was happy.

Many years later, an old man came back to the tree..

The tree apologize for not having anything more to give to him, to make him happy..

The man (boy) said I needed nothing now but a place to rest.

So the tree bark stretched itself as tall as it could, the remaining of it, for the boy to rest on it. And both of them were happy...

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-03-05T17:58:48Z</dcterms:modified>

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2005-10-11T15:43:32Z</dcterms:modified>

the five people you meet in heaven

Author: Mitch Albom

This book is an inspiration... Let you re-examine your life.

To be frank, I'm too sad to sleep now. I've always knew that Dumbledore wouldn't live forever to protect Harry Potter and I knew that he's going to die in this book as a spoiler friend told me last afternoon when i'm half-way through finishing the book. Yet, to read about how Dumbledore died, and his funeral made my heart filled with grieve.. Sleepless night, I think....

The whole book is almost like... Dumbledore is so close to not being killed, yet..

So now Hogwarts might be closing down due to the fact that a teacher killed the Headmaster. And Harry has decided to track down Voldemort and Snape by himself, to kill them. Well, of course Ron and Hermione will wanna fight with him all the way..

Ok, I'm being a spoiler here as well...I know, i'm a totally idiotic spoiler.. I'm really sad over Dumbledore's death.. I mean.. He's the greatest wizard ever appeared in the whole series so far, right?

Wondering how long would it take for JK Rowling to finished up the 7th book, giving it an end...

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2005-07-18T12:39:45Z</dcterms:modified>

HARRY POTTER and the Half-Blood Prince

Oh yeah yeah yay.....!!

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2005-07-12T13:45:24Z</dcterms:modified>
